Health Design Plus and Pacific Business Group on Health Expand Partnership on National Centers of Excellence Program.

Health Design Plus (HDP) and Pacific Business Group on Health (PBGH) – two collaborators and leaders in the design, administration and management of national centers of excellence (CoE) programs – are pleased to announce the expansion of our partnership.

HDP and PBGH spent the last 5 years successfully creating several of the most innovative CoE programs in the country. Today, more than 2M people have access to some of the nation’s highest quality care via these programs. To further that mission, we are consolidating our respective CoE programs into a single initiative, branded as the Employers Center of Excellence Network (ECEN).

The ECEN launched a CoE benefit for joint replacements on 1/1/14, spine procedures on 4/1/15 and bariatric surgeries on 1/1/16. A cancer program is currently in development for 7/1/18. The ECEN has generated nearly $30M in savings through competitive, bundled pricing, avoided unnecessary care and improved quality.

“We are extremely proud of our role in the move towards high quality, value-based care on behalf of some of the nation’s largest and most innovative companies, and in conjunction with some of the country’s leading medical centers. Our partnership with PBGH demonstrates our shared commitment to setting the bar for travel surgery programs and bringing value to our clients and provider partners.”

- John Strickland, President, Health Design Plus

“In addition to creating a consistent, high quality experience for participating employers and patients, the ECEN sends a signal to the entire market that employers will no longer settle for unpredictable, unnecessarily expensive and unreliable care. Together, PBGH and HDP have proven that our partnership brings the ideal combination of skills and resources to build a successful centers of excellence program. We look forward to growing this innovative, collaborative program to demand increased value of the health care system.”
